Current Trends in Psychological Intervention
Keywords:
psychological intervention, psychotherapy, mental healthAbstract
This article comprehensively analyzes the evolution of psychological intervention from its historical foundations to contemporary practices, highlighting psychology's capacity to adapt to scientific, social, and technological changes. The objective of this study was to describe and critically examine the primary current trends in psychological intervention, distinguishing those backed by scientific evidence from practices lacking empirical support, in order to guide ethical, effective, and contextualized professional practice. Methodologically, the study was based on a review of recent scientific literature—including empirical research, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses related to psychotherapy, neurosciences, positive psychology, behavioral therapies, and technologies applied to mental health—adopting a descriptive and analytical approach. Results show significant progress in integrating the evidence-based approach, the rise of positive psychology, and the development of third- and fourth-generation therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, and compassion-based therapies, which have demonstrated efficacy across clinical, educational, and occupational contexts. Likewise, the incorporation of technological tools such as neuroimaging, neurofeedback, telepsychology, and digital applications was highlighted, having improved accessibility, diagnostic precision, and the personalization of psychological interventions. In conclusion, the article argues that contemporary psychological intervention is moving toward integrative, holistic, and personalized models in which scientific evidence, technological innovation, gender perspective, and cultural inclusion serve as fundamental pillars, emphasizing the need for continuous professional development and an ethical commitment to guarantee equitable, high-quality mental health care.
